Abortion is banned in Kentucky.
If you're in Kentucky and need an abortion
If you’re in Kentucky, you may need to travel out of Kentucky to get an abortion unless you qualify for an exception. Exceptions are very limited and include:
- To save the pregnant person's life
- To prevent serious risk to the pregnant person's physical health.
You can leave Kentucky and get an abortion out of state.
Keep in mind that some states require a waiting period. This means you may have to schedule one appointment for a counseling session, then wait a required amount of time before having your abortion appointment.
If you’re younger than age 18, consider that many states require you to get permission from a parent or guardian to get an abortion. If you plan to travel to a state that requires the involvement of a parent or guardian and you need to avoid that, you could see if you're eligible to get a judicial bypass. For more information about getting a judicial bypass, contact the If/When/How Repro Legal Helpline. To contact the Helpline, call 844-868-2812 or submit a request online.
Use our abortion provider search to find an out-of-state provider, and call as soon as possible to schedule an appointment. If you’re having trouble getting an appointment or need other help related to getting an abortion, call the NAF (National Abortion Federation) Hotline at 1-800-772-9100.
Some virtual providers offer abortion pills to people nationwide.
Some telehealth abortion providers only serve specific states. Other telehealth abortion providers serve all 50 U.S. states and its territories. Depending on where you live, there may be some legal risk in getting abortion pills online. To learn more about possible legal risk, visit the website for the Repro Legal Helpline.
