Abortion is banned in Texas.

Abortion is completely banned in Texas with very limited exceptions because of a state law that went into effect July 1, 2022.

If you're in Texas and need an abortion

If you’re in Texas, you may need to travel out of Texas to get an abortion unless you qualify for an exception. Exceptions are very limited and include:

  • To save the pregnant person's life
  • To prevent serious risk to the pregnant person's physical health.

You can leave Texas and get an abortion out of state.

Keep in mind that some states require a waiting period. This means you may have to schedule one appointment for a counseling session, then wait a required amount of time before having your abortion appointment.

If you’re younger than age 18, consider that many states require you to get permission from a parent or guardian to get an abortion. If you plan to travel to a state that requires the involvement of a parent or guardian and you need to avoid that, you could see if you're eligible to get a judicial bypass. For more information about getting a judicial bypass, contact the If/When/How Repro Legal Helpline. To contact the Helpline, call 844-868-2812 or submit a request online.

Use our abortion provider search to find an out-of-state provider, and call as soon as possible to schedule an appointment. If you’re having trouble getting an appointment or need other help related to getting an abortion, call the NAF (National Abortion Federation) Hotline at 1-800-772-9100.

Find a Verified Abortion Provider

Some virtual providers offer abortion pills to people nationwide.

Depending on where you live, there may be some legal risk in getting abortion pills online. To learn more about possible legal risk, visit the website for the Repro Legal Helpline.

The telehealth abortion providers that serve the U.S. are:

  • A Safe Choice (through 12 weeks, 6 days)
  • Abuzz (through 12 weeks, 6 days)
  • Aid Access (through 13 weeks, 6 days)
  • Cambridge Reproductive Health Consultants - The MAP (through 11 weeks, 0 days)
  • Choices Rising (through 12 weeks, 0 days)
  • Her Safe Harbor (through 10 weeks, 0 days)
  • Southern Woven (through 12 weeks, 6 days)
  • We Take Care of Us (through 12 weeks, 6 days)

Find assistance for cost, travel, and more.

A variety of assistance resources are available depending on where you’re located. These organizations may offer one or all of the following: funding for your abortion, support for travel, childcare, lodging, and more. Please note that most require you to have scheduled an appointment before you can start applying for assistance.

If you schedule an appointment outside of Texas, you can also try to search for assistance in the location where your appointment will be.
